Faith for Your Feelings

Transforming Disgust

Overcoming contempt, rejection, and feelings of worthlessness.

Have you ever looked at your own failures, or the actions of others, and felt a deep sense of revulsion? Disgust causes us to reject people, push things away, and declare them completely unfixable or unclean. It builds walls of contempt that tell us certain situations or individuals are entirely beyond redemption.

And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

Acts 10:15

This powerful statement challenges our human tendency to write off people, things, or even ourselves as permanently ruined. We often judge by outward appearances or past mistakes, labeling things as permanently stained or worthless. This verse corrects that view by shifting the focus to God’s ultimate authority.

When God cleanses and redeems something, its past status is completely erased. Human opinions, biases, and feelings of disgust cannot reverse what the Creator has sanctified. It forces us to view ourselves and others through a lens of divine value rather than human judgment.

One step today

Today, if you feel a sense of disgust or contempt toward yourself or another person, stop that thought pattern instantly. Declare this truth silently: “What God has created possesses immense value, and I will not look down on it.”

Remember

What God has made clean, I have no right to call worthless.
