Have you ever had your entire world turned upside down by a sudden piece of news you never saw coming? Shock and sudden surprises can leave us feeling disoriented, dizzy, and completely stripped of control. When the unexpected strikes, it is easy to feel like our entire life is spinning out of control.
He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.
Psalm 112:7
This verse outlines the profile of a life built on an unshakeable, steady foundation. It does not promise that bad news or shocking events will never happen to us. Instead, it promises a radical internal stability that prevents us from falling into absolute panic when those moments arrive.
The secret to this stability is a heart that is “fixed,” anchored in God rather than in stable circumstances. When your trust is placed in the unchanging character of God, a sudden shift in your daily life cannot destroy you. You can face the unexpected knowing that God is never caught off guard.
Today, if an unexpected problem or disruptive change catches you by surprise, do not panic or make sudden decisions. Sit quietly for two minutes and tell yourself: “This surprise does not change God’s plan for my life.”
News can catch me off guard. It never catches God off guard.
